10 business books to read this year

10 business books to read this year

Bill Gates says that he reads, on average, one book per week. He also says that reading is his “favorite way of learning about a new topic.” Warren Buffet spends around 80% of his day reading. What about you?

Here is my subjective choice of 10 titles that you should take a look at.

1. Tools of Titans

Author: Tim Ferriss

In his last book, Tim Ferriss, an entrepreneur, and strategist, shares the secrets behind the efficiency of over 200 well-known people that he has spoken to on his podcast. The book is “packed” with useful tips. You can open it and start reading from virtually anywhere.

2. Are You Fully Charged?: The 3 Keys to Energizing Your Work and Life

Author: Tom Rath

Rath’s latest bestseller is a powerful compendium that provides us with a large dose of scientific knowledge, attempting to explain the significance of the three key conditions that differentiate fully productive days from average days:

Meaning: doing something that benefits another person

Interaction: creating more positive moments than negative ones

Energy: making choices that improve your physical and mental health

3. Friend and Foe: When to Cooperate, When to Compete, and How to Succeed at Both

Authors: Adam Galinsky and Maurice Schweitzer

Researchers Galinsky and Schweitzer think that success is not a one-lane road of cooperation or competition; we always need to follow both paths and when we learn to strike the right balance between them, miracles often occur. A wise, practical book that will help you become a “better ally and a more frightening enemy.”

4. Grit to Great: How Perseverance, Passion, and Pluck Take You from Ordinary to Extraordinary

Authors: Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval

Do you think that leaders such as Steve Jobs and Colin Powell were born as talented, prodigious children? No. They were completely average like most of us are. What differentiated them? Their personalities. Personality is one of the aspects that can change an average Joe into a business shark, similar to resilience (the ability to adapt), resistance, and persistence. In Grit to Great, Kaplan and Koval show how people press on, working long, incredibly hard hours, forging their happiness.

5. Superbosses

Author: Sydney Finkelstein

A fascinating exploration of the behaviors and stances of the most effective leaders in the world—how they motivate their subordinates, inspire them, and let others develop their businesses and form entire industries Finkelstein, a well-recognized professor at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University, presents his statistics gathered across more than 200 interviews with the best leaders.

6. Sprint

Authors: Jake Knapp, John Zeratsky and Braden Kowitz

The Google Ventures partners provide us with a fantastic guide, answering the most essential business questions. No matter whether you are the leader of a small start-up firm on the Fortune 100 rankings, the owner of a one-person economic activity, or a non-governmental organization, this book will answer the questions that bug you. It is a book for anybody who needs to tackle a large opportunity, problem, or idea and who needs an immediate answer about what to do.

7. The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership

Author: John C. Maxwell

A classic in a new, complete package A leadership expert with a global reputation, Maxwell presents us with a range of very useful and easy-to-understand business and leadership tips with the use of interesting anecdotes.

8. Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win

Authors: Jocko Willink and Leif Babin

It’s time for a dose of testosterone. In Extreme Ownership, commandos Willink and Babin present a detailed range of mental rules and stances that let SEAL-squadron soldiers complete the most challenging military missions. Through them, the authors show how such rules can be applied in an organizational context.

9. Thinking Fast and Slow

Author: Daniel Kahneman

A well-known psychologist and Nobel Prize winner in economics, Daniel Kahneman analyzes two cognitive systems that shape our judgment and our everyday decision-making.

10. Shoe Dog

Author: Phil Knight

Bill Gates’s favorite book, Shoe Dog, gives us an internal look at the business journey of Phil Knight—how he built the Nike company from scratch and transformed it into a global brand.
